Viscoelastic properties are one of the most fundamental chiral liquid crystals. In general, their determination is not a straightforward task. The main problem multitude physical parameters needed to determine value elasticity and viscosity constants. It also necessary consider character respective phase. This particularly important in case phases such as ferroelectric antiferroelectric or blue phases. There several experimental methods measure constants These use various phenomena detect deformation, e.g., light transmission, polarization current, modulation, dielectric constant helix deformation unwinding. Commonly, an external electric field used induce homogeneity which inside cell essential. study focused on analysis effect laser photobleaching electro-optic crystal field. results obtained by confocal microscopy function depth presented. influence stabilization procedure isolated region performed controlled has been studied. observation was conducted using polarizing microscope, numerical two-dimensional colored textures performed. suggest that can produce anchoring effect, positive crystal.

A new method of light modulation is reported. This method is based on the electro-optical properties of nematic materials and on the use of a new wedge structure. The advantages of this structure are the possibility of modulating nonpolarized light and the improved signal-to-noise ratio. The highest modulating frequency obtained is 25 kHz.
